Autumn is well under way and this weekend we will be celebrating our fabulous new hang on Saturday and Sunday with print demonstrations, drinks and snacks.  Visit us from noon onwards, see how it's done and have a go.  On Saturday, Martin Langford will be demonstrating and on Sunday it will be Roy Tonkin

Richard Peacock, whose work is featured as part of the Lambeth Open will be on hand both days and you can see his work and other affordable prints.  Maybe pick up an early Christmas gift? (there I said it! the 'C' word)

Richard makes screen prints and woodcuts.  His work combines elements of abstraction and pop art, with a love of colour and rhythm. He often uses discarded packaging to make the stencils for his screen prints and raids skips for wood for his wood cuts.  His work is highly collectable.

The gallery has been completely rehung and we are now displaying new images - framed and unframed, seen for the first time.  All available at reasonable, affordable prices!

Join us for drinks and nibbles to browse the collection and meet the artists.

Easter Saturday

Join us on Saturday 31st March around noon when Martin Langford will be demonstrating printmaking outside our gallery in Gabriel's Wharf.  This is your chance to have a go!

Everybody is welcome.  Young and not-so-young.  You are invited to make your very own print using a drypoint technique and Martin will guide you through the process that he applies so brilliantly in his own work.

The Wharf will be bristling with chocolate eggs for you and your children to hunt down.  They will be hidden in the various independant shops and restaurants and when you're tired of searching and printing you can relax and enjoy the live music and vibrant atmosphere with a cup of coffee from Sarni's, a pie from the 5 star Pieminster or a delicious meal from Studio 6.

Urban Art July 8th & 9th Brixton

Three of our members are exhibiting at this amazing open-air event on the weekend of 8th and 9th July.  Centered around Josephine Avenue, you can enjoy work of huge diversity and the same can be said of the prices!

Martin Langford will be there.  His Image 'Ride of your Life' won the People's Choice Award at the Royal Society of Painters/Printmakers this year, and 'Nucleus' has been chosen by the Urban Art team for use in their advertising. Congratulations Martin!

We are happy Theresa Pateman is participating again this year.  Her fresh quirky images are very popular and many of you will know her work from the Royal Academy. This year she has been focused on the production of exquisite 3-D theatre models but has managed to find time to make some new and wonderful work. I.e this emotive depiction of the Oxo tower seen from Gabriel's Wharf.......

Last, but certainly not least, is Julie Sullock with her exciting non-objective vibrant and colourful images.  We love her painting -

Southbank Printmakers at the Affordable Art Fair

From the 15th-19th June the Affordable Art Fair, Hampstead Heath opens its doors to the public for a phantasmagorical exhibition of the most amazing art you can enjoy or not enjoy depending on your taste.  Whatever you think of it, it is a great day or evening out and 10 of the Southbank Printmakers (past and present) are there in the guise of Printmakers Inc. Stand i2.  Here you can see the work of the following printmakers: Aimee Birnbaum, Kit Boyd, Angela Brookes, Sarah Garvey, Jennie Ing, Barbara Jackson, Martin Langford, Theresa Pateman, Sue Rowling and Julie Sullock

Goings-on at Whitsuntide

A three day weekend is coming up and we hope it will be sunny and bright so that you will come down to the South Bank and visit us in the Gallery.  Louise Hayward (our current Artist in Focus) and Theresa Pateman will be there on Saturday, Eileen St Julian Bown on Sunday and Martin Langford is sitting on Monday.  All will welcome you warmly and will be on hand to talk to you about the prints and processes.

Talking of processes, Ann Burnham has photographed the stages involved in the making of a rather gorgeous print.

Southbank Printmakers at the Royal Academy

We are delighted that five of our members have work in the RA Summer Exhibition. They are Mary Cossey, Jim Anderson, Martin Langford, Theresa Pateman and Lucie Green

A little foretaste to inspire you to visit this fantastic exhibition of contemporary and emerging artists!

Let me begin with something truly 'hands on'....images by Theresa from her series entitled 'Sense & Sensibilia'  This series looks at the five senses that we all know about and queries the likelihood of misconception and also questions the validity of our 'sixth sense'  Well my sixth sense is telling me that Theresa can look forward to many red dots on her exquisitely rendered aquatints - see below:

Hands are also a theme in Jim's 'Shadow Play'  A rather amazing and vibrant lino-cut.  Jim has drawn upon the games we all played as children - creating monsters, birds and butterflies magically with clever contortions of our fingers and thumbs.

Lucie Green's highly skilled woodcut of a potter in Nepal just takes my breath away!

As I always say, these jpegs are all very well, but really only convey the image.  For the whole picture (pardon the pun) you have to see the actual print and if you can't make the RA you would be very welcome at our gallery
