MarPhilArt comes to SBP 15th - 28th April

MarPhilArt is the title of an exhibition at our Southbank Gallery from 15th-28th April 2019 showing the work of Marcella Worthington and Phillippa Egerton.

Marcella took a degree in Fine Art at Cardiff and went onto be involved in the fashion world, ranging from being a fashion illustrator in New York, textile designer in Manchester and make up artist in Chelsea. She has lived and exhibited in Berlin. She now concentrates on etching and regularly exhibits.

Artist’s statement

My work is characterised by delicate line drawing. My aim is for the viewer to experience a moody and atmospheric emotion.

I produce etchings from my watercolours of life drawings, faces and figures which I then combine as Chin Collee etchings.

Phillippa did a History degree at Oxford before going into mural design and then doing a printmaking MA at Wimbledon. She does painting as well as printmaking and has won awards for her printmaking including a gold medal from the Printmakers Council and regularly exhibits in London. She has two grandchildren.

Artist’s statement

My work is bold and colourful and I like to build up complex images using a combination of drawings, photos, watercolours and created textures that I put together on the computer before screen printing. The interaction between the computer and traditional printmaking has always fascinated me.  I’m inspired by colour, light, movement and children’s toys which has led to a series of darkly comic images.

We're back!!!

We have had a fabulous makeover at Southbank Printmakers and have reopened after our exhibition at the Oxo Tower.

We have moved the back wall, laid a new wooden floor, rearranged the browsers, tidied up our clutter and given the walls a lick of clean white paint.  The result is a cleaner, smarter more welcoming space with better access for visitors. Do come down and see us and tell us what you think.

There's lots to do on the Southbank during the summer. Jeppe Hein's water sculpture 'Appearing Rooms' returns..........

..............as does the seaside in central London, with the urban beach by the side of the Thames.

There are plenty of pop up bars and cafes, a weekly food market in Southbank Square and the beautiful oasis roof garden on top of Queen Elizabeth Hall where you can have a drink whilst watching the sun go down over London.

So make a day of it and treat yourself, or someone else, to an original print created by one of our artists.  Jane Stothert's work is featured from tomorrow for 3 weeks. Lovely images to complement a Summer's day!

 Thanks for the preview Ann!

I also have a couple of new images.  Unusually for me I have a London image - Cross Trail at Canary Wharf - in honour of the new rail track, as well as Feeling Sheepish - the dreadful tale of the wolf in sheep's clothing, the outcome of which we know only too well!

Hope you can make it!  If you would like a half price ticket please contact me via this blog, leaving your name and email address............
