Easter Saturday

Join us on Saturday 31st March around noon when Martin Langford will be demonstrating printmaking outside our gallery in Gabriel's Wharf.  This is your chance to have a go!

Everybody is welcome.  Young and not-so-young.  You are invited to make your very own print using a drypoint technique and Martin will guide you through the process that he applies so brilliantly in his own work.

The Wharf will be bristling with chocolate eggs for you and your children to hunt down.  They will be hidden in the various independant shops and restaurants and when you're tired of searching and printing you can relax and enjoy the live music and vibrant atmosphere with a cup of coffee from Sarni's, a pie from the 5 star Pieminster or a delicious meal from Studio 6.

Easter at Southbank Printmakers

Apart from the exciting shenanigans at Gabriel's Wharf this weekend - which includes the annual Easter egg hunt

- we have, not one, not two, but THREE new members and are very excited to be offering their work for sale in the Gallery.

In no particular order (apart from alphabetical) I can share a preview of their images here.

Above are two by Buffy Kimm 'Poles Apart' and 'Venice'.  Buffy takes inspiration from photography, particularly abstract detail in architecture and natural forms. She looks for the obscure and unusual angles, rather than the straightforward image and is fascinated by light and shadow. She enjoys experimenting with etching techniques, using multiple etching plates in some of her pieces, and likes to add different media to explore innovative solutions to her work.

Biography

Multipurpose

Richard Peacock is a printmaker based at the Chocolate Factory studios in North London. He makes screen prints and woodcuts. His work combines elements of abstraction and pop art, with a love of colour and rhythm. He often uses discarded packaging to make the stencils for his screen prints and raids skips for wood for his wood cuts. He exhibits widely, nationally and internationally.

Emerging Blocks

The Divisibility of the Body
We also welcome Charlotte Whiston.  She is an artist whose inspiration for her work, which usually takes the form of silk screen print, comes from contemporary metaphysics and the philosophy of mind. Charlotte’s aim as an artist is to create work that depicts an idea or theory, such as the mind-body problem and emergent properties, in a way that is visually novel and stimulating.

So much to see and four fabulous days free to wonder down our way!

Something to 'egg' you on!

Are you thinking of heading down to the Southbank in the next few days?  If so, bring the whole family along for a phantasmagorical Easter Egg Hunt!

These tasty treats have been cunningly concealed in the shops and galleries and while you are getting your caffeine fix in one of the local watering holes, your kids will be having a riot tracking down the yummy chocolate rewards (with apologies to dentists everywhere) (it's only once a year)

We will welcome you to our Gallery where, apart from chocolate eggs we will also be offering our usual selection of wonderful hand-made prints.  You might be looking for something Spring-like?  In which case we have work by Libby Carreck, Ann Burnham and Lucie Green and many more cheery images to brighten up your home.
