Nepal Earthquake - Lucie Green's response

Lucie Green has four rather special images of Nepal and she is offering them for sale at the Gallery.  She is a well known and accomplished printmaker who has exhibited widely, both in solo shows and at the Royal Academy.  This then is an opportunity to own one of her pieces for a very reasonable price, the full amount of which will go to the Nepal Earthquake Appeal Disasters Emergency Committee

Durbar Square, Patan.  A/P £140

As you may know, the earthquake has caused massive damage resulting in at least 5000 deaths as well as injury and homelessness.  We cannot pretend to know the suffering and horror born out of such an experience.  We can only hope that by sending money, which we can do, we might alleviate some suffering somewhere.

Patan temple, A/P linocut £170

Many of the buildings in Nepal were old and rickety and could not possibly hope to withstand an earthquake.  The authorities are planning to draw on the wisdom and know-how of architects throughout the world and are aiming to rebuild in a manner more suited to volatile conditions.

Water gathering I 3/8 woodcut £210
You may have heard that much of the relief is not getting through - but much is.....and it will all find its way as things become more organised.  The DEC assure us that ' donations will go directly to helping the wounded, providing shelter for the homeless and getting water, food and essential items to those who have lost everything. Life-saving support will be given to the most vulnerable people, including children, the elderly and those who are disabled.'

Watching the world go by II  2/15 woodcut £85

Lucie's images are at the gallery now and if you are passing, step inside and take a look.  If you decide to buy you should know that £5 can feed a family for one day, £10 can provide clean water for a family for six weeks and £20 can provide emergency shelter for a family who have lost their home so your money will be well spent and your generosity much appreciated.

Something to 'egg' you on!

Are you thinking of heading down to the Southbank in the next few days?  If so, bring the whole family along for a phantasmagorical Easter Egg Hunt!

These tasty treats have been cunningly concealed in the shops and galleries and while you are getting your caffeine fix in one of the local watering holes, your kids will be having a riot tracking down the yummy chocolate rewards (with apologies to dentists everywhere) (it's only once a year)

We will welcome you to our Gallery where, apart from chocolate eggs we will also be offering our usual selection of wonderful hand-made prints.  You might be looking for something Spring-like?  In which case we have work by Libby Carreck, Ann Burnham and Lucie Green and many more cheery images to brighten up your home.

Mainly, however, we would love to see you and hope you come down and enjoy a good day out!

Lucie Green flies solo

Lucie Green's work is very popular with our customers who are unsurprisingly drawn to her vibrant and vivacious woodcuts and etchings.

Now, there is an excellent opportunity to view up to 60 of her dynamic images in a solo show at The Granary Art Gallery, Weston Park, TF11 8LE.  The show runs from 4th - 29th March and offers free admission.  Lucie's PV is on Saturday 7th March 2pm - 4pm.

This particular exhibition will show her range of linocuts, woodcuts, collagraphs and etchings, which depict various subjects from still life to interiors to scenes from countries abroad.

Her recent relief and intaglio works take inspiration from objects around her, as well as her experiences from living overseas in Asia. Chinese woodcuts have particularly interested her, following a visit to the Chinese Academy of Fine Art in Beijing.

Lucie has exhibited widely in the east of the country, south east and London, recently having her work on show at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition last year.  In addition she has exhibited in Ludlow and Northern Ireland.

Lucie's work is always available at our Gallery along with work from 40+ printmakers so if you can't make it to the show - and I hope you can - drop by Southbank Printmakers Unit12, Gabriel's Wharf, 56 Upper Ground, London SE1 9PP

Southbank Printmakers at the Royal Academy

We are delighted that five of our members have work in the RA Summer Exhibition. They are Mary Cossey, Jim AndersonMartin Langford, Theresa Pateman and Lucie Green

A little foretaste to inspire you to visit this fantastic exhibition of contemporary and emerging artists!

Let me begin with something truly 'hands on'....images by Theresa from her series entitled 'Sense & Sensibilia'  This series looks at the five senses that we all know about and queries the likelihood of misconception and also questions the validity of our 'sixth sense'  Well my sixth sense is telling me that Theresa can look forward to many red dots on her exquisitely rendered aquatints - see below:

Ouch

There, There

Hands are also a theme in Jim's 'Shadow Play'  A rather amazing and vibrant lino-cut.  Jim has drawn upon the games we all played as children - creating monsters, birds and butterflies magically with clever contortions of our fingers and thumbs.

Lucie Green's highly skilled woodcut of a potter in Nepal just takes my breath away!

As I always say, these jpegs are all very well, but really only convey the image.  For the whole picture (pardon the pun) you have to see the actual print and if you can't make the RA you would be very welcome at our gallery
