Easter at Southbank Printmakers

Apart from the exciting shenanigans at Gabriel's Wharf this weekend - which includes the annual Easter egg hunt

- we have, not one, not two, but THREE new members and are very excited to be offering their work for sale in the Gallery.

In no particular order (apart from alphabetical) I can share a preview of their images here.

Above are two by Buffy Kimm 'Poles Apart' and 'Venice'.  Buffy takes inspiration from photography, particularly abstract detail in architecture and natural forms. She looks for the obscure and unusual angles, rather than the straightforward image and is fascinated by light and shadow. She enjoys experimenting with etching techniques, using multiple etching plates in some of her pieces, and likes to add different media to explore innovative solutions to her work.

Biography

Multipurpose

Richard Peacock is a printmaker based at the Chocolate Factory studios in North London. He makes screen prints and woodcuts. His work combines elements of abstraction and pop art, with a love of colour and rhythm. He often uses discarded packaging to make the stencils for his screen prints and raids skips for wood for his wood cuts. He exhibits widely, nationally and internationally.

Emerging Blocks

The Divisibility of the Body
We also welcome Charlotte Whiston.  She is an artist whose inspiration for her work, which usually takes the form of silk screen print, comes from contemporary metaphysics and the philosophy of mind. Charlotte’s aim as an artist is to create work that depicts an idea or theory, such as the mind-body problem and emergent properties, in a way that is visually novel and stimulating.

So much to see and four fabulous days free to wonder down our way!

A Day out at the Garden Museum

If you are wondering what to do this Sunday what about a visit to the Garden Museum?  They are holding their annual Spring Plants and Garden Fair from 10.30 to 17.00 and we have a stall manned by our own Kit Boyd, Theresa Pateman and Hil Scott.

The theme of the stall unsurprisingly is all things horticultural and here you have a chance to buy an original Kit Boyd 'Green Man' as a print.......

 ....or as a card.....

Kit is also bringing along his crazy wood engraving (below)

His lush green 'Eden'

and many more.......

Barbara Jackson's images will also be on sale.  Her strangely beautiful 'Winter Tree' may not be seasonal but is nevertheless desirable!

And if, when wandering in the 17th century styled knot garden, you want something to remind you of the outing, how about her enchanting image below?

You might like Julie Sullock's evocative images.  Particularly.....

Prussian Tree

Autumn Tree

Richmond Park
Theresa Pateman is bringing some of her atmospheric
depictions of the Welsh countryside to the fair. These are relatively new works and have not yet been seen widely.  Now's your chance to own a little bit of Cymru!
Ice White

Road to Littlehaven

The Wedding Guest

To the Sea

There will be much much more to see and buy.  Read all about it here and enjoy!

Spring has sprung at SBP

......and we have been busy re-hanging the gallery with many beautiful and unique works for your delight. From a tangle of bubble-wrap many exciting images have emerged to decorate the wall for their first time and we hope you will drop in and have a look.

In the gallery today

Bronwen Paterson is our current Artist in Focus and you can see some of her lovely work here

The schools are closed, the sun is out and what could be more appealing than a trip for the whole family to Grimm Tales in the Oxo Tower (closes 11th April), a snack from Sarnis and a browse around our newly hung gallery?

Eight more shopping days to go

Don't forget Mother's Day - Sunday 15th

Today I went out without a coat!  Admittedly I had three other layers about me, but generally I felt a considerable balminess that was most welcome and timely - Spring being on the way means that Mother's Day is just around the corner - and at Southbank Printmakers we have the very thing for mothers and mother's mothers and their mothers.
Sally Cutler 'The Baby in the Middle'

Sally Cutler 'The Mother'

Flowers are the order of the day and we have Ann Burnham's delightful trio......

Hil Scott has produced these charming images....
Japanese Anemone
Jackmanii

Big White Daisies

All this and more.....'more' being Jenny Ronay's sensitively entitled 'Tea and Sympathy'

So when you're wandering and wondering, wander in to our Gallery and we will show you much more in the way of delights.  We are open 7 days a week from Mon - Fri and Sunday 11.30 to 5pm and sometimes longer as the evenings get lighter.  Saturdays we are here from 10am to 7 pm.
