Theresa Pateman offers two classes at the Hampstead School of Art 19, Kidderpore Ave, London NW3 7ST on Mondays 10-1pm and 2-5pm.  She will introduce you to Drypoint, Acid Etching, Solar Plate, Mono print, Linocut and Collagraph.

To whet your appetite - here are some images showing you what happens when you employ Drypoint on Perspex- scoring into the plastic creates a surface you can rub into and make prints from, it's also an ideal material to cut to any shape.

Southbank Printmakers welcomes Maxine Fitter

We are delighted to be hosting Maxine's lovely work at the Gallery  She will be with us from 18th May to 31st May, when you will be able to view and buy her prints every day of the week (Mon to Fri and Sunday: 11.30 – 6.30pm Saturdays 10.00 – 8.00pm).

Born in 1940, Maxine studied Illustration at St Martins School of Art 1956-60.  She then worked for a while in commercial advertising , as a florist for Constance Spry and when she had children, opened and ran a playgroup in Witham but throughout  maintained an interest in the natural world and drawing and painting.

Since taking an EARAC course at the then NE Essex School of Art(1988-90) Maxine has concentrated on and utilised the medium of printmaking to recreate the natural world and inanimate objects around us, observing the detail and patterns, simplifying and enlarging on the intricacies involved in anything, from frogs to lilies, from boats to mill wheels.  At the same time she helped set up and establish Cuckoo Farm Artists Studios and Print workshop in Colchester.

Maxine compulsively collects information, to draw and recreate, with lino cuts for strong images, or dry points and collographs for finer details.  She employs a depth of colour and patterns in her works to catch the attention and " tell the story " as she sees it.   

                                                                                                                         

Maxine regularly exhibits as a member of Colchester Art Society and Cuckoo Farm Printmakers as well as Lloyds Art Group in London.

She has had two solo exhibitions in the Colchester Digby gallery and has twice had work selected for the Society of Wild life Artists in the Mall galleries and the Eastern Arts Open in Kings Lynn.

This is a fantastic opportunity to own some of this very special work and we hope to see you during the two weeks it is available.

Today I went out without a coat!  Admittedly I had three other layers about me, but generally I felt a considerable balminess that was most welcome and timely - Spring being on the way means that Mother's Day is just around the corner - and at Southbank Printmakers we have the very thing for mothers and mother's mothers and their mothers.

Talking of cards, we have many unique Christmas cards for sale at the moment.  My own print 'Starry starry night' comes in card form and there is still time to buy and post for Christmas.

The Perfect Gift!

Autumn Fest at Southbank Printmakers!!

This week we re-hung the Gallery with a fantastic assortment of etchings, collographs and silkscreen prints and now we are busy snipping our abandoned prints in to leaf-like shapes so we can garland the windows and truly celebrate Autumn.

What a lovely October it has been so far!  If you are enjoying a stroll along the South Bank why not pop in and see us.  By popular demand we have extended our Summer opening hours so you can call in Monday to Friday and Sunday between 11.30 and 6.30 and on Saturdays between 10 and 8 for the foreseeable.....

Drawn to Abstraction - Julie Sullock

Julie Sullock's work is well known and admired for its gorgeous liquid feathery colours and she is currently exhibiting at The Stables Gallery in Twickenham.  Not long to go now - the exhibition ends on 13th April.  Of course, you can always see Julie's work at Southbank Printmaker's Gallery but if you are at a loose end in the Twickenham area or feel like a foray in to the exciting world of abstract art - The Stables Gallery is the place to be.

Julie achieves a unique and exciting image (see below) using the screen printing.  You can find out more about how she does it by clicking here  Having said that - well...... you can discover the process - but may have a bit of a way to go!

This particular image is not in the exhibition although similar prints are.  Please do contact us, either via this blog or at the gallery if you are interested in this one in particular.

Introducing Yasmine Dainelli

We have recently welcomed Yasmine to Southbank Printmakers and I am delighted to showcase two of her exceptional prints below.  Yasmine works in black and white and the contrast between the two is what brings her work to life on the page, so to speak. Look at this "Clapton-London" which is made using colllograph and drypoint.

Although I am looking at this in two dimensions, I can feel the texture.

Then there is this one which I find very atmospheric.  Yasmine has made this using a mixture of etching and mixed media.

Unsurprisingly Yasmine has been the recipient of several awards including the first prize at “Limen Art” 2013 and winner of the second prize at the French Printmaking Triennal "Estampadura" 2013.  I wonder what this year will bring?

Trained under Professor Adriano Bimbi at the Academy of Fines Arts in Florence, she also has a master's degree in printmaking at the international school of graphic art the "Il Bisonte", in Florence. She divides her time between the UK and her native Italy.

My feeling is that we are lucky to have her!
